Dogs and Cats

Did you ever wonder why Dogs are considered Man’s best friend? Why are Cats so different?

Any dog-lover knows that dogs love unconditionally. Have you ever left the house in a hurry and driven for two minutes, only to realize you forgot your phone, wallet, or something vitally important for work?  What happens immediately when you re-enter your front door? Your dog acts as though you have been gone for 3 to 5 years and seeing you there at that exact moment is the absolute best thing that’s ever happened to him (or her) in his entire life – even though you’ve been gone for a grand total of five minutes. This is a perfect example of how much God loves every single one of us.  If He is out of our thoughts for five minutes, He misses us and enthusiastically celebrates our return.

Cats, on the other hand are much more aloof. Now, please, please, pretty please before you tell me how different your particular cat behaves, I am speaking in a broad and general sense. I think the cat portrayed in The Secret Life of Pets is a wonderful albeit stereotypical example. Cats can be extremely loving, but this love comes on their terms and is subject to their moods. When they are ready, we better drop everything immediately and display our affection for them or there will be consequences; they get to pick and choose when to return that affection. This is a perfect example of how Man loves God.  Quite frankly, many in our current culture just arch our backs and hiss at God menacingly but if this applies to you, have no fear – God still thinks you are adorable and awaits you with open arms, excited and absolutely brimming with anticipation at your return.
