Let’s Dance

I’ve heard it said “life is a dance.” I think this particularly rings true once we realize it is not a solo dance through life but a dance with “Life.” Specifically with the author of all life and the ultimate partner – it is a dance with God himself. Not a grind.

Sometimes the music is fast. At times the music seems to stop. Sometimes the floor clears and it’s time for slow-dancing, for intimacy. And sometimes we sit nervously on the periphery of life, deathly afraid to ask God to dance. In the depths of our being we’re afraid God doesn’t want to dance with us, with all our faults and failings. Afraid he’d rather dance with someone else. Someone “not us.” Someone better.

Sometimes we embarrass ourselves on the dance floor. At times we slip and break an ankle. Sometimes God picks us up. Other times he encourages us to get up. But God always wants to dance with us. He always wants to say, “Yes, I’d love to! I’ve been hoping you would ask me.”
